Microchip and NVIDIA Collaborate to Speed Up Real-time Edge AI with Holoscan

Microchip Technology has introduced the PolarFire® FPGA Ethernet Sensor Bridge, a game-changer for developers working on AI-driven sensor systems. This new release works seamlessly with NVIDIA’s Holoscan platform, enabling real-time sensor processing and AI inferencing at the edge.

Advanced Multi-protocol Sensor Support

The PolarFire FPGA Ethernet Sensor Bridge offers multi-protocol support, making it adaptable to a wide variety of sensor interfaces. The first release is compatible with MIPI® CSI-2® sensors and the MIPI D-PHY℠ physical layer. Future updates will expand support to SLVS-EC™ 2.0, 12G SDI, CoaXPress® 2.0, and JESD204B, giving developers broad flexibility for integrating different sensor types.

This technology allows developers to build on NVIDIA Holoscan’s powerful ecosystem, leveraging its optimized libraries, pre-built AI models, and template applications to accelerate the development of AI inference pipelines. This opens doors to a wide range of edge-to-cloud applications, from healthcare to industrial automation and even automotive AI.

Enhanced Real-time AI Capabilities

NVIDIA Holoscan simplifies the development and deployment of high-performance computing (HPC) and AI applications at the edge. By integrating the PolarFire FPGA Ethernet Sensor Bridge, developers can ensure low-latency communication between sensors and the NVIDIA AI platforms, including NVIDIA IGX and NVIDIA Jetson. This architecture is ideal for applications requiring real-time data processing and AI inferencing.

The expanding demand for AI workloads has led to a surge in the need for innovative solutions like this, which can efficiently handle real-time data at the edge.

Security, Reliability, and Energy Efficiency

One of the standout features of PolarFire FPGAs is their energy efficiency. This makes them perfect for applications with strict power constraints, such as medical devices, industrial sensors, and automotive systems. Additionally, the PolarFire FPGA platform addresses security concerns with embedded safety features that protect against cyber threats. These FPGAs are also immune to single event upsets (SEUs), which makes them highly reliable in critical environments like space, high-altitude operations, and medical facilities.

A Future Built on AI and Edge Computing

As edge AI continues to evolve, solutions like the PolarFire FPGA Ethernet Sensor Bridge will be crucial in driving innovation across industries. By streamlining real-time AI processing and enhancing data security, this platform is setting a new standard for edge computing applications.
