G42 Introduces Comprehensive Framework for AI Safety

G42 has taken a significant step toward AI governance by unveiling its Frontier AI Safety Framework.

The UAE-based technology conglomerate has officially launched a structured framework to enhance AI safety. This initiative aligns with the commitments made at the AI Seoul Summit and the principles outlined in the Bletchley Declaration. G42’s approach aims to establish clear methodologies for assessing risks, enforcing governance, and implementing external oversight, ensuring that advanced AI models are developed responsibly.

Strengthening AI Governance and Risk Management

As artificial intelligence continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, G42’s safety framework sets new standards for responsible AI deployment. It introduces definitive capability thresholds, governance mechanisms, and deployment safeguards to proactively identify and address AI-related risks before they escalate.

“AI is the defining technology of our time—an innovation that will reshape economies and societies, just as electricity did in the past,” said Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42. “With great power comes great responsibility. Our framework ensures that innovation progresses with the necessary safeguards in place.”

Key Components of the Frontier AI Safety Framework

The framework introduces a comprehensive multi-layered approach to AI risk management:

  • G42 Frontier AI Governance Board: Led by Dr. Andrew Jackson, Chief Responsible AI Officer, along with key figures like Alexander Trafton (Head of Technology Risk), Martin Edelman (General Counsel), and Adele O’Herlihy (Head of Responsible AI), this board is responsible for overseeing compliance, safety protocols, and incident response strategies.
  • Independent Audits and Transparency Measures: G42 will conduct internal audits and engage third parties in annual reviews to maintain compliance. A transparency report will also be published, outlining key safety insights and risk evaluations.
  • Defined Risk Thresholds and Mitigation Strategies: The framework outlines clear parameters for assessing risks related to cybersecurity, biological threats, and autonomous decision-making. If an AI model approaches these thresholds, G42 will implement additional security measures, modify system behavior, or limit deployment to mitigate risks.

Collaborating with Experts for Enhanced AI Safety

The development of this safety framework was supported by leading AI risk experts, including METR and SaferAI. Their insights played a crucial role in shaping the governance model and risk mitigation strategies embedded within the framework.

Pioneering AI Safety in the Middle East

G42’s initiative positions it as a leader in AI governance within the Middle East. The company is committed to ongoing collaborations with regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders to enhance AI safety practices and contribute to global governance discussions.

“AI safety is an ongoing journey that demands strong governance, transparency, and cooperation across industries,” said Dr. Andrew Jackson, Chief Responsible AI Officer at G42. “By embedding proactive risk management into our AI systems, we ensure that technological advancements align with societal interests.”

Introducing the X-Risks Leaderboard

To operationalize its AI safety framework, G42 has launched the X-Risks Leaderboard—an open evaluation platform designed to measure AI model risks across key areas such as cybersecurity, chemistry, and biology. Built on G42’s Safety Evaluation Suite at Inception, this tool provides real-world assessments of AI vulnerabilities and reinforces the company’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Forging Global Partnerships for AI Safety

G42 continues to collaborate with major technology partners, including Microsoft, NVIDIA, AMD, Cerebras, and Qualcomm. The company will work with other signatories of the AI Seoul Summit’s safety commitments to strengthen security measures and share threat intelligence, ensuring that AI innovation remains both transformative and secure.
