Cirion Expands AI & Cloud Capabilities with Ciena’s WaveLogic 6

Cirion Technologies is making a groundbreaking move in digital infrastructure by integrating Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e), the industry’s first 1.6 Tb/s coherent optical technology.

Revolutionizing Connectivity Across Latin America

With a vast network connecting over 160 data centers across 60+ cities in Latin America, Cirion is leveraging WL6e to enhance high-capacity, low-latency connectivity. This upgrade is essential for supporting bandwidth-heavy applications, including AI, IoT, and streaming services.

By deploying WL6e, Cirion aims to significantly boost network capacity across both terrestrial and submarine networks, marking the first-ever 1.6 Tb/s single carrier wavelength deployments in the region.

A Strategic Partnership for the Future

Cirion’s partnership with Ciena underscores a commitment to staying at the forefront of optical innovation. Alejandro Girardotti, Senior Director of Product, Innovation, and Strategic Alliances at Cirion, emphasized that upgrading from WaveLogic 5 to WaveLogic 6 is a crucial step in adapting to the increasing demands of cloud computing and AI technologies.

“Ciena’s technology enables us to efficiently meet customer needs while enhancing network sustainability,” Girardotti stated.

Enhancing Submarine and Terrestrial Networks

Cirion is also set to modernize the SAC East submarine cable, connecting St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands to Brazil. This enhancement will increase channel speeds to 1.2 Tb/s using WL6e.

Additionally, Cirion will activate its new SAC-2 submarine route as part of the Firmina subsea system. Spanning an impressive 14,517 km, this system connects the United States, Brazil, and Argentina. It will rely on Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme submarine network solution and WL6e-powered 6500 optical platform to deliver speeds of 800Gb/s to 1.2 Tb/s.

Innovative Routing and Management

To further optimize its network, Cirion will deploy Ciena’s coherent aggregation routers (8110, 8112, and 8114), offering high-speed, flexible aggregation capabilities. Additionally, Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite will provide comprehensive network management and analytics, ensuring seamless performance monitoring and configuration.

Driving the Future of Digital Infrastructure

As the demand for AI and cloud solutions continues to accelerate, Cirion’s investment in next-generation optical technology positions the company as a leader in digital transformation. By embracing high-speed, scalable, and sustainable network solutions, Cirion is set to redefine connectivity in Latin America.

For organizations looking to optimize AI-driven applications, Cirion’s advancements align with the industry’s shift toward AI-powered platform upgrades, ensuring optimal performance and future-proof scalability.

With these strategic upgrades, Cirion is not only enhancing network efficiency but also strengthening its role in supporting the next wave of digital innovation.
